The St. Albans Saints have moved clear of the State League One relegation zone with an excellent 4-2 win against the Port Melbourne Sharks.

Jozeljic's first puts Saints ahead

Micky Colina’s side were in complete control of the match for the majority of the game, and two goals in the first half stunned the Sharks.

A smartly taken free kick by captain Hrvoje Matkovic gave Goran Jozeljic the chance to open the scoring in the 12th minute, but a top class save by Port Melbourne’s keeper kept the score at bay.

Georgies Too Strong for Saints

The St. Albans Saints suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat away to league leaders Sunshine Georgies in the Victorian State League One competition.  Photos

An early goal put a dampener on what promised to be a good match, as the sharp Georgies attack took less than a minute to open the scoring.

Following this early setback, Micky Colina’s side raised their game and were competitive in the midfield but struggled to create chances for their attackers.

Several corners failed to result in a goal and despite the pressure, the Saints could not crack a solid Georgies defence.

Saints Record First Win of 2012

Josip LONCARIC

The St. Albans Saints have re-ignited their Victorian State League One season with a tight 1-0 win at home to Altona Magic. A first half goal from new recruit Goran Kuna gave the Saints all three points and moved Micky Colina’s side into the middle of the league standings.

After two defeats and one draw from their opening three matches, the Saints were desperate in their pursuit of a win, and could easily have opened the scoring inside the first 15 minutes of the match. The lively combination of Goran Kuna in midfield and Goran Jozeljic up front was creating problems for the visitors, and it was Kuna that opened the scoring after a Daniel Sweeney free kick rebounded off the crossbar and fell into the path of the creative midfielder.  Photos Reserves Photos
